Perched on a steep hillside, the Frieda Addition adds vital floor area to the rear of a normative 1950’s home.

The addition, which consists of a primary bedroom suite on the upper level and a guest suite/office space on the lower level, has a compact footprint to minimize site disruption and foundation costs. The floor plates are square to the existing house and the slope, but the diagonal vaulted ceiling and the corner balconies direct the views toward the San Bernardino mountains.

A large window and balcony dissolve the upper corner of the addition to maximize views from the staircase and primary suite.

The vaulted ceiling is clad in warm wood detailing, giving the house a natural feel and a sense of craftsmanship.

There is a view out to the hillside through the double-height stairwell.
